Seven Roman Catholic Dioceses in Pennsylvania and every diocese in New Jersey have set up a victim compensation fund to compensate childhood victims of sexual abuse. The Fund will cover victims going back to abuse that occurred in the 1940s.
The Dioceses in Pennsylvania are Philadelphia, Harrisburg, Scranton, Allentown, Greensburg, Erie, and Pittsburgh.
New Jersey has four dioceses and one archdiocese. The dioceses include Paterson, Trenton, Metuchen, and Camden.
Because of the sensitivity of the abuse of all victims and their families, names and information will be kept in the strictest confidence.
The Fund will not use money set aside for church activities or the help the needy. It will not dip into funds for charities, seminaries, donor-designated gifts or donations to parishes, ministries or schools. The money to pay victims will come from the sale of properties and insurance compensation.
The Fund will not be open indefinitely, and we expect claims to be paid in the order they are received. The August 2018 Grand Jury Report estimates that there more than 1,000 children abused since the 1940s so do not delay filing your claim.
